In September, automobile production and sales continued to maintain rapid growth, highlighting the traditional sales peak season. The monthly production and sales reached 2.672 million and 2.61 million units respectively, up 11.5% and 9.5% month-on-month, year-on-year up 28.1% and 25.7%, the year-on-month turned from negative to positive, and the year-on-year growth rate was slightly lower compared with last month.
From January to September, automobile production and sales reached 19.632 million and 19.47 million units, respectively, up 7.4% and 4.4% year on year, and the growth rate was 2.6 percentage points and 2.7 percentage points higher than that of January to August.
New energy production and sales hit a new record high, up 93.9% year on year
In September, new energy vehicles continued to maintain high growth, and monthly production and sales hit a record high, reaching 755,000 and 708,000 respectively, month-on-month growth of 9.3% and 6.2%, month-on-year growth of 1.1 times and 9.93.9%, and the market share reached 27.1%. Among the main varieties of new energy vehicles, the production and sales of pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles both increased compared with last month, while the production of fuel cell vehicles increased and the sales volume decreased; compared with the same period of last year, the above three categories continue to maintain rapid growth.
Production and sales of major varieties of new energy vehicles in September
From January to September, the production and sales of new energy vehicles reached 4.717 million units and 4.567 million units, respectively, up 1.2 times and 1.1 times year on year, and the market share reached 23.5%. Among the main varieties of new energy vehicles, compared with the same period of last year, the production and sales of pure electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and fuel cell vehicles continue to maintain a high growth momentum.

Strong growth of auto exports rose 73.9% year on year
In September, auto companies exported 301,000 units, down 2.6 percent month-on-month and up 73.9 percent year-on-year. By model, exports of passenger vehicles were 250,000 units this month, down 3.9% month-on-month and up 85.6% year-on-year; exports of commercial vehicles were 51,000 units, up 4.4% month-on-month and 32.6% year-on-year. The export of new energy vehicles was 50,000 units, down 40.3% month-on-month, and more than doubling year-on-year.
From January to September, auto companies exported 2.117 million vehicles, up 55.5 percent year on year. By model, export of passenger vehicles was 1.696 million, up 60.1% year on year; and export of commercial vehicles was 422,000, up 39.2% year on year. The export of new energy vehicles was 389,000 units, up more than doubling year on year.
In September, among the top 10 vehicle export companies, SAIC exported the most, exporting 99,000 units, up 54.3 percent year on year and accounting for 33 percent of the total exports. But BYD saw the most significant export growth rate compared with the same period a year earlier, with 8,000 units exported, up 4.6 times year-on-year.
From January to September, among the top ten enterprises in vehicle export, compared with the same period of last year, among which Geely's export growth rate was the most significant, with the export volume reaching 142,000 units, up 89.9% year on year.
